Eco-industrial parks need global co-operation

WCEF2021 live session organized by the Circular Economy Centre in Kemi pointed out the importance of international co-operation at the industrial circular economy field.

The global co-operation process is crucial to maximising joint learning in measuring the performance of eco-industrial parks

WHAT ARE ECO - INDUSTRIAL PARKS?

Eco-industrial park (EIP) is an industrial area that emphasis in sustainable development, cooperation between operators and the circular economy. Eco-industrial park is a geographically defined area where materials, energy, and knowledge circulate between actors. EIPs add value through cooperation to the companies involved. The EIPs make integration of social, economic, and environmental quality aspects into its siting, planning, management and operations.

THE BENEFITS OF MEASURING ECO-INDUSTRIAL PARKS

In order to understand the sustainable performance of Eco-Industrial Parks, it is necessary to find suitable indicators to describe the pace and the phase of the transition towards more extensive and sustainable circular economy solutions. The set of multiple indicators will facilitate the efficient management, that identifies the gaps and needs and directs the right actions accordingly.
